The tech sector is growing faster than ever, with new breakthroughs every day, driven by those looking to improve the world with the power of software and technology.
Despite this constant push for progress, however, the sector remains one of the least diverse, with a serious gender bias problem. That’s something that needs to change.
According to growth network Tech Nation, the UK tech industry employs around three million people, or 9% of the country’s total workforce. Despite this, just 26% are women.
Despite tech hires increasing during the pandemic following a £13.5bn investment into UK tech, this unfortunate statistic has remained steady, highlighting the fact that the industry has a serious issue with attracting and retaining talented female employees.
The same report also highlighted that much of this is down to the perception that tech has a toxic ‘bro culture’. Burnout, gendered biases, and a lack of work/life balance also contribute, according to Tech Nation.
At Mobica, we believe firmly that this needs to change.
The sector - and the organisations within it - must make a greater effort to convince women that it is a safe and supportive place to build a career.
At Mobica, we’re proud to be a destination workplace. We’re constantly striving to be the place to be for those with in-demand talent and skills, no matter who they are or where they come from.
This approach to recruitment and retention underpins everything we do today.
From the word go, our goal was to recruit, develop, and retain the most skilled developers, software engineers and wider talent from a range of backgrounds and cultures. Inclusivity and equality have been cornerstones of the Mobica brand since the start - and we’re not done yet.
We’re working to make Mobica a place where women in tech feel properly represented. Our recruitment policies reflect our focus on gender equality, as does our zero-tolerance approach to salary inequalities.
By rewarding employees based on their qualities and performance, we can ensure everyone - male or female - is paid equally for the work they do. This policy is enforced by the Mobica HR team, which regularly carries out wage gap diagnoses to rectify salary inequalities.
We’re proud to say that women already make up a third of our leadership team, and we’re constantly investing and recruiting talented and skilled female developers and leaders to push that number even higher.
If we want to drive real change in the industry, we know that there’s no time to rest on our laurels. We continue to support women within Mobica every day with:
By consistently reinforcing this unbiased and supportive approach to recruitment, we hope to build a team of skilled and talented developers that is truly reflective of the society we live in.
