Today saw a first for our SVP of Global Sales, Dan Jelfs, as he presented at the GSMA Global Mobile Awards (GLOMOs) alongside Sophia, the humanoid robot.
Sophia has attracted huge attention at this year’s Mobile World Congress, including receiving a personal greeting from King Felipe VI of Spain.
Developed by Hong Kong based Hanson Robotics, she has received widespread publicity in the media since she was first activated in 2016, and has participated in high profile interviews across the globe.
Today she took centre stage with Dan and Larry Madowo, the BBC’s Africa Business Editor, to present four awards as part of the Fourth Industrial Revolution category.
Nominees in the Best Mobile Innovation in Automotive category included WindRiver, Mojio and what3words. But it was Huawei’s C-V2X Solution for improving road safety that took home the award.
Winners also included Kt-Corp, scooping Best Mobile Innovation in Payment and Fintech for its voice recognition payment platform, Genie Pay.
Pushing boundaries in automotive and fintech have been key themes at this year’s Congress and there have been some exceptional examples of technology applications that are changing the way we live and work.
We’re proud to have sponsored this year’s GLOMOs to celebrate some of those huge achievements, and we’re also grateful to have shared the stage with Sophia – the personification of innovation!
