The Challenge_
The ability to facilitate payment transactions anywhere has been revolutionary for merchants who can now conduct commerce untethered. Mobile commerce solutions have delivered an easier and more satisfactory experience for customers, while also helping to improve operational efficiencies for businesses whether they are in-store or on the move.
A leading global provider wanted to provide merchants with these benefit through an all-in-one payment terminal that offered flexible mobile payments, for Android payment-accepting devices, with additional services.
This would include integration with a merchant’s till system and receipt printer, a simpler and more customisable UI, the ability to combine with loyalty programs and the ability to accept alternative forms of payment.
To get this solution to market, however, the vendor needed to bring in external skills and expertise to meet the ambitious requirements of the project.
The Solution
Due to our extensive experience of next generation payment technologies, the company selected Mobica as their technology partner. Our broad skillset meant we were able to provide the client with a range of support – including UI/UX design at the presentation layer and software development on the Android API framework and System Apps layers.
This development support covered the integration of payment interfaces with core APIs, transaction encryption and decryption and cloud-based management (including merchant, terminal, host protocol and deployment configuration). We also worked on the design and development of a generic payment protocol, and adaptations that would meet specific industry standards.
THE RESULTS_
Our extensive Android SDK and terminal management experience, coupled with our knowledge of industry specific standards and compliance initiatives - including EMV, PCI, UK Standard 70, UPI, ISO 8583 - all contributed to the success of the project.
Working closely with our client's internal team, Mobica was able to bring their vision to life. The result was a mobile commerce platform that significantly improved the transaction capabilities, while adding value across many other levels.
This includes the ability to split payments between groups, take door-step payments for takeaways and parcel deliveries or enable loyalty points payments.
